Private Anxiety Therapy: When is it Time?

Knowing when to seek private anxiety therapy can be a crucial decision in managing your well-being. Several factors can indicate that it’s time to consider professional help.

It’s advisable to seek private anxiety therapy when:

  • Self-help techniques are not sufficient. If self-help techniques have not helped to fully understand or alleviate the problem, then consider therapy.
  • There is interference with success:
    • Attitudes, behaviours, feelings or thoughts interfere with the ability to be successful in the world. This includes relationships, work, or within themselves.
  • After a number of relapses, or a particularly distressing one, self-change is not working.
  • Experiencing anxiety often or if you have an anxiety attack that persists.
  • If you feel stuck with a therapist let them know.
  • If you are honest and answer yes to all these questions, you should seriously consider professional assistance:
    • Do you experience high levels of stress?
    • Does it seem like nothing you try works?
    • Are you feeling hopeless?
    • Is your anxiety interfering with your social life?
    • Is your anxiety impacting your relationships with family members?
  • Negative coping strategies make it much more difficult to change. People who use these strategies excessively often seek help.
  • When anxiety gets in the way of your life it’s helpful for you to engage with it.

It’s important to remember that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Therapists learn what really works and what doesn’t, in practice. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that consulting a therapist is an admission of weakness. That’s twisted thinking.

Turning to a private social anxiety therapist is advisable when self-help strategies prove insufficient, anxiety significantly interferes with your life, or negative coping mechanisms persist. Seeking professional support is a proactive step towards managing your well-being and reclaiming control over your life.
